Purchasing your first home is something magical for young couples. Feeling that sense of ownership, and getting to make a space truly your own is such a freeing and wonderful feeling. Our friends Izzy and Chandler just recently finished a complete renovation of their cute little townhouse in Boise. Keep reading to learn about their renovation process, furnishing on a budget, and their experience with Wallaroo’s!
“We had been looking at homes for a few months, had submitted numerous offers, and kept getting turned down. When we found this little townhouse listed for sale with no photos to show, and set well below our budget, we decided to check it out. When we stepped inside, I have to say, it took a bit of imagination to see the potential. The place was a mess, it smelled awful, and needed more than just a little TLC. But being the eager, young couple we are, we of course snatched it right up.”
After closing on the home, they set right to work completely gutting and renovating the whole place. There was cat-pee stained carpeting that ran throughout the house, and old linoleum glued down to the subfloor. The walls were smoke-stained, patched poorly, and in rough shape. None of the appliances worked, the bathroom was disgusting, and the ceiling had popcorn-textured asbestos.
Now, four months later, there is brand new wood flooring all throughout the home, refinished cabinets in the kitchen, and brand new appliances. The ceilings are asbestos-free, The bathroom has a new tub/show, vanity, floors, and drywall. There’s not a single room that went untouched!
It's Furniture Time
With the renovation being complete, the next step is furniture and decor! Being fresh out of college, Izzy and Chandler were mostly furniture-less and weren’t psyched about dropping thousands on new furnishings.
Luckily, Izzy knew of a super amazing furniture store that has a location right in Boise! 😉 After exploring our showroom, and seeing everything we have to offer, they decided on our gray, linen Bailee sofa! They were looking for something that was sleek and beautiful that would fit nicely in their space. They have a Scandinavian vibe, with a hint to Boho thrown in (Izzy can’t stay away from wicker.) The Bailee sofa is just their style, and it practically looks like it was made for their home!
“When we saw the Bailee sofa at Wallaroo’s Boise location, we knew that would be perfect for our home. The gray linen upholstery is just what we wanted, and it’s soft while still being durable. We stopped by Wallaroo’s one evening to look around and ended up going home with our new sofa that same day!”
Facebook Marketplace Master
Izzy also happens to be a master of Facebook Marketplace and flipping old furniture. Many of her other pieces have been Facebook Marketplace finds and refinished to be more her style.
The TV stand was listed for $30 on Facebook Marketplace, but of course, the bright blue was not the vibe. After sanding, painting, adding wicker baskets, and leather drawer pulls, it’s exactly what Izzy had in mind! Check out the before and after below!
Same with the kitchen table. It was listed for $40 on Facebook Marketplace and was very outdated-looking. Nothing a little paint and TLC can’t fix! It matches the TV stand and is the perfect size for Izzy’s small eating nook. Some cute leather chairs bring the whole look together!
The coffee table had been a hand-me-down from Chandler’s parents. The beveled edging and natural wood were what they loved about it, but the chunky look of the table was not really their style. After replacing the legs with metal hairpin legs, it’s exactly what they wanted! And for less than $20!
Home Decor
When it comes to decor, all of the artwork in the house was painted by Izzy, and the wicker basket wall-hanging was another Facebook Marketplace find. They became regulars at Lowe’s throughout the renovation project, and ended up finding the rugs in their living room and bedroom there!
We are so happy to have been able to help Chandler and Izzy find a sofa they love. It looks amazing in their home! Thank you for sharing your photos with us, it’s so fun to see the house truly transform into what it is now!
