My Dream for Wallaroo's Being the VP of a growing furniture brand was not in the cards for me when I started with Wallaroo’s Furniture and Mattresses, formerly Spokane Overstock, 7 years ago. I was in law school and hating it, and beyond relieved for the opportunity to do something that stretched me, but also exercised skills I had developed early in my career in retail. I knew early on if I was going to make a career at Wallaroo’s work for me I would have to incite change and lead in a way I could find meaning. I left law school and started on the path to build a culture of feedback, growth, fun and results. Now all of these years later I am so proud to see my hardwork and the hardwork of my teams pay off to make Wallaroo’s Furniture what it is today. Promoting from within Through lessons learned, pivots made, worldwide pandemics, and global shipping crisis’, Wallaroo’s has not just survived but thrived. We’ve come out on the other side with a choice to make. I have led the development side of our culture, and to my fault or maybe my credit we have committed to the practice of promoting from within. A practice that has proffered an incredibly nimble and tight knit Marketing Team I am so proud of. Early in my career when I was working at Lululemon, promoting from within was a practice that was really only paid lip service, and being on the wrong side of the promotion ladder left me pretty resentful. Being passed up for a promotion hurts… Being passed up for a promotion by someone who doesn’t know the culture, doesn’t know the team, and DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO FOLD A PAIR OF GROOVE PANTS… that really hurts. And so was born my commitment to promoting from within, should I ever have the opportunity to do so. Wallaroo’s has seen some incredible leadership. I have watched Furniture Assemblers become Store Managers, and a Content Creator grow into our Marketing Manager. Watching the people around me build their careers is an exhilarating high I cannot explain; it is what gives my work at Wallaroo’s meaning. But it has left gaps in accountability, and in the post pandemic world, finding reliable team members looking to grow their careers has been a challenge. Taking accountability Holding more accountability at the top of the company than any business owner should has me questioning my deeply held belief that “Wallaroo’s Furniture and Mattresses promotes from within.” Broadening our search for new team members is a direction we need to take and one I’m very excited about. Wallaroo’s has 10 open management positions among our 12 locations throughout Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Utah. If there is one thing I know from my years in retail and my love of leadership it is that strong, passionate leaders who are capable of kind, canorous feedback and a drive to develop those around them are necessary for success in sales and in business generally. We’re in the last week of 2022, and is it just me or did this year absolutely FLY by? Looking back at all the fun we had and everything we accomplished this year has us stoked for what’s to come in 2023! A lot of new and exciting stuff has been going on at Wallaroo’s this past year. We launched new products, we curated our home decor program, we welcomed new team members, and so much more! Looking back at 2022 Designing and manufacturing our own products is one of the many things that makes Wallaroo’s stand out from our competitors. It allows us to create practically anything we can imagine. In 2022 we brought in a fleet of limited edition products. These limited factory sample pieces allow us to gauge interest and success in the product before we decide if they’ll be added to our collection. My Dream for Wallaroo's Being the VP of a growing furniture brand was not in the cards for me when I started with Wallaroo’s Furniture and Mattresses, formerly Spokane Overstock, 7 years ago. I was in law school and hating it, and beyond relieved for the opportunity to do something that stretched me, but also exercised skills I had developed early in my career in retail. I knew early on if I was going to make a career at Wallaroo’s work for me I would have to incite change and lead in a way I could find meaning. I left law school and started on the path to build a culture of feedback, growth, fun and results. Now all of these years later I am so proud to see my hardwork and the hardwork of my teams pay off to make Wallaroo’s Furniture what it is today. Promoting from within Through lessons learned, pivots made, worldwide pandemics, and global shipping crisis’, Wallaroo’s has not just survived but thrived. We’ve come out on the other side with a choice to make. I have led the development side of our culture, and to my fault or maybe my credit we have committed to the practice of promoting from within. A practice that has proffered an incredibly nimble and tight knit Marketing Team I am so proud of. Early in my career when I was working at Lululemon, promoting from within was a practice that was really only paid lip service, and being on the wrong side of the promotion ladder left me pretty resentful. Being passed up for a promotion hurts… Being passed up for a promotion by someone who doesn’t know the culture, doesn’t know the team, and DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO FOLD A PAIR OF GROOVE PANTS… that really hurts. But it has left gaps in accountability, and in the post pandemic world, finding reliable team members looking to grow their careers has been a challenge. Taking accountability Holding more accountability at the top of the company than any business owner should has me questioning my deeply held belief that “Wallaroo’s Furniture and Mattresses promotes from within.” Broadening our search for new team members is a direction we need to take and one I’m very excited about. My Dream for Wallaroo's Being the VP of a growing furniture brand was not in the cards for me when I started with Wallaroo’s Furniture and Mattresses, formerly Spokane Overstock, 7 years ago. I was in law school and hating it, and beyond relieved for the opportunity to do something that stretched me, but also exercised skills I had developed early in my career in retail. I knew early on if I was going to make a career at Wallaroo’s work for me I would have to incite change and lead in a way I could find meaning. I left law school and started on the path to build a culture of feedback, growth, fun and results. Now all of these years later I am so proud to see my hardwork and the hardwork of my teams pay off to make Wallaroo’s Furniture what it is today. Promoting from within Through lessons learned, pivots made, worldwide pandemics, and global shipping crisis’, Wallaroo’s has not just survived but thrived. We’ve come out on the other side with a choice to make. I have led the development side of our culture, and to my fault or maybe my credit we have committed to the practice of promoting from within. A practice that has proffered an incredibly nimble and tight knit Marketing Team I am so proud of. Early in my career when I was working at Lululemon, promoting from within was a practice that was really only paid lip service, and being on the wrong side of the promotion ladder left me pretty resentful. Being passed up for a promotion hurts… Being passed up for a promotion by someone who doesn’t know the culture, doesn’t know the team, and DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO FOLD A PAIR OF GROOVE PANTS… that really hurts. And so was born my commitment to promoting from within, should I ever have the opportunity to do so. Wallaroo’s has seen some incredible leadership. I have watched Furniture Assemblers become Store Managers, and a Content Creator grow into our Marketing Manager. Watching the people around me build their careers is an exhilarating high I cannot explain; it is what gives my work at Wallaroo’s meaning. But it has left gaps in accountability, and in the post pandemic world, finding reliable team members looking to grow their careers has been a challenge. Taking accountability Holding more accountability at the top of the company than any business owner should has me questioning my deeply held belief that “Wallaroo’s Furniture and Mattresses promotes from within.” Broadening our search for new team members is a direction we need to take and one I’m very excited about. Wallaroo’s has 10 open management positions among our 12 locations throughout Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Utah. If there is one thing I know from my years in retail and my love of leadership it is that strong, passionate leaders who are capable of kind, canorous feedback and a drive to develop those around them are necessary for success in sales and in business generally. So, with great humility and more excitement than I can express, I’m happy to announce that Wallaroo’s is opening 10 Store Manager positions we plan to fill by early January 2023. We’re in the last week of 2022, and is it just me or did this year absolutely FLY by? Looking back at all the fun we had and everything we accomplished this year has us stoked for what’s to come in 2023! A lot of new and exciting stuff has been going on at Wallaroo’s this past year. We launched new products, we curated our home decor program, we welcomed new team members, and so much more!
